Shortly after we were married, my wife and I joined the family ministry arm of CRU. While we were officially on staff, we never raised enough support to move. After 2 years, and only half-way there we determined we weren't called. However, we were introduced to the idea of adoption through some great couples and eventually ended up with two amazing babies from Guatemala and South Korea. Our family would have never been complete without the experience, although training in Florida and evangelizing on the beach was... interesting. Especially for an introvert like myself!
I did a CRU Summer Project in North Myrtle Beach after my sophomore year, and then New York City the summer after my junior year. Perhaps someday I’ll write a post about all I gained from street/beach evangelism.
You are one well-rounded SOB, Mr. Dalton. 🙂 No wonder you have so many good stories to tell. Keep em coming. Wondering if I ever passed you on the Maine turnpike during your N.E. era. I lived (still live) in NH, but occasionally crossed state lines when craving adventure and sales tax. 🙃
Where you are, is it beautiful in Autumn? Do you suffer swarms of tree-peepers? I like the Northeast. Though when I first arrived from Texas, I couldn’t understand why they put roads through their forests!
But yes, pretty autumn. For about three days. Otherwise, Winter then Summer. It's supposed to be Spring right now, but we just got a foot of snow yesterday. So, we essentially live in an apocalypse practice zone.
That little aside about whether and how much that kind of service "helps or hurts" strikes at a deep truth that's hard to articulate. Nothing ever lasts, nothing is permanent. So why not do something here, right now, for this person?

Thanks for sharing your experience, Wil!
Aw, happy family!

Not gonna lie, Campus Crusade for Christ sounds like something I'd make up for one of my posts.
Congrats on all your service work. Good stuff.

Where else could we put them? There are mountains in the way. I grew up on the Seacoast. So we got beach tourists. 🙄

It’s a diabolical question
